Welcome to USSSTURGEONSSN637.COM

                                     Welcome to USSSTURGEONSSN637.COM.

My name is John “Robbie” Robbins and I served aboard the Sturgeon in A-Division from September 1977 to February 1981, under Captains D.E. Broadfield and G.R. Sterner. I came on board as a Fireman Apprentice and finally made it to MM2/SS.  After I left the Navy, I moved to Columbia, SC where I married a girl I met while stationed in Charleston. Been married for coming up on 26 years now and it’s been a hellofa ride! Smartest thing I ever did was to marry her. We moved to the Piedmont/Triad area of NC in ‘84 and settled down, raising 2 sons (John and James). Me? I’m still pulling on wrenches for a living, working for a small commercial and industrial  HVAC company as a service tech. 7 more years and I can retire!!!

For some time I’ve wanted to have a site where those who served on board the Sturgeon from any time could get together and get reacquainted with old ship mates. I’ve created a forum where we can get together, share old Sea Stories, post pictures, and let each other know what’s been going on in our lives since we left the Navy.

Register, sign in and let everyone know what you’ve been up to. I don’t care when you served on the Sturgeon....this is a site for all that ever did, from Plankowner to the De-commissioning               crew, Officer and enlisted alike. Got stories, pictures, go ahead and post them.

I’ve been in touch with  several of the guys from my days on the Sturgeon and they are: Rick Dudley (cook), Rusty Grant, Ken Waegerle and Dave Henderson (all from A-Div), Mark Klick (EM), Bill Roraback (IC), Doc Visser, Scott Salzman (MM), Mike (Bobby) Riggs (STS), John Camara (EM), Carl Smeigh, C. E. Ellis, J. E.  (Dewey) Teske, Ernie (Vern) Watson and Mark Darrow (all O-gangers).

If you want to get in touch with them (or me), drop me a line at:

                                                     robbie@usssturgeonssn637.com

I’ve moved all my pictures that were on Photobucket.com to this site. Thought it might be easier to view them all at one place. Ken Waegerle was kind enough to let me have his photo album and I scanned in all the photos he has, so we got over 200 pictures for you to browse through and re-live the days of our “youth”, when we were the defenders of the free world.
